Fender Japan ’60s Traditional Competition Stripe models

Fender Japan Traditional 60s Competition Stripe range announced
Fender Japan Traditional '60s Competition Stripe models new limited run of models. Includes, 60s-style Stratocaster, Telecaster, Mustang, Jazzmaster and Precision Bass

These new Fender Japan ’60s Traditional Competition Stripe models consist of a Stratocaster, Telecaster, Mustang, Jazzmaster and Precision Bass. Each model is specifically a ’60s-style instrument in Olympic White with a Competition Stripe in either blue or red.

’60s Competition Stripe

As ever Fender Japan gets the best releases and these new ’60s Traditional Competition Stripe models look stunning in the Olympic White gloss finish. I like that they also have matching painted headstocks on all the models, as it looks really good.

These new limited-run models follow on from the Reverse Head Stratocaster models announced last week. Once again showing that the Japanese market has great taste in guitars!

I think their new Flagship Store which opens this summer in the Harajuku area of Tokyo is going to look amazing packed with instruments such as these.

Red & Blue

Each model then has a Competition Stripe in either red or blue, that runs through the centre of the guitar body.

Key Specifications

The models all have a basswood body and a 9.5-inch radius U-shape maple neck with a rosewood fretboard fitted with 21 vintage-style frets. Along with a bone nut and white dot inlays

Pickups across the range are Fender Japan’s Vintage-Style models that are specific to each instrument. I guess, as they are all specifically ’60s models, that they will be voiced accordingly.

All the nickel/chrome hardware and the control layouts are standard for the various models, so no fancy wiring or switching modifications.

Limited Run

All of the Fender Traditional ’60s Competition Stripe models are a limited run for the Japanese market for 2023. Though, hopefully, a few may well escape out into the EU and US.

Prices for all models vary slightly and each one comes with a Fender gig bag.

Great Value

I must say that I think the value for money on these limited-run models is exceptional, as they offer something unique and they aren’t exactly expensive.

I’ve always been a huge fan of the Japanese Fender models, as the build quality is exceptional. Just wish we could get more guitars like these where I live in the UK.

Maybe a trip to Tokyo is on the cards for me?

MSRP – ¥ 137,500 – ¥ 154,000
