Neural DSP has dropped a bombshell in the amp modeling world with the announcement of NanOS 2.0.0, a significant firmware update for their popular Nano Cortex unit. The free upgrade addresses key user requests, most notably delivering a massive expansion to the effects list and granting players unprecedented control over their signal chain.
NanOS 2.0.0
Since its launch last year, the Nano Cortex aimed to bring Neural DSP’s acclaimed digital tones and capturing technology to a broader audience in a compact, screenless format, positioning itself as a direct competitor to Kemper’s Profiler Player and IK Multimedia’s TONEX.
While lauded for its powerful processing and sound quality, early adopters noted limitations in its performance capabilities, including a fixed signal chain and a restricted selection of swappable effects.

47 New FX
Now, NanOS 2.0.0 directly tackles these concerns, transforming the Nano Cortex into an even more formidable contender in the mini-modeler market. The headline feature is the dramatic increase in available effects and utility tools, jumping to a staggering 47 new additions.
Previously limited to a single reverb, chorus, transpose, noise gate, and delay, the Nano Cortex now boasts a wealth of sonic possibilities.

Reverb & Delay
Guitarists can now explore a diverse range of reverb algorithms, including Room, Hall, Modulated, Ambience, and Cave, as well as multiple delay types such as Tape, Digital, Dual, Circular, and Dual Reverse.

Modulation
The update also introduces a suite of coveted modulation effects inspired by classic pedals such as the MXR M117R Flanger, TC Electronic Dreamscape Chorus, and MXR UniVibe.

Overdrives
Crucially, the update finally integrates a comprehensive selection of drive and compression pedals. Players can now access emulations of iconic overdrives like the Fulltone OCD, ProCo Rat, and Ibanez TS808, as well as fuzz from the Dunlop Fuzz Face and clean boost from the Xotic RC Booster.

Compressors
Eight new compressor models, drawing inspiration from units by Universal Audio and SSL, further enhance the unit’s versatility.

While the Nano Cortex maintains its fixed seven-slot signal chain – with two slots dedicated to the amp Capture and IR – the ability to populate those slots with a vastly expanded array of effects represents a significant leap forward.
This newfound flexibility directly addresses a major point of feedback from users who desired more tonal shaping options within the compact unit.

Beyond the extensive effects additions, NanOS 2.0.0 also introduces practical functional updates, including an input gate and an IR Loader Global Bypass function.

Free Update
This substantial free update is poised to shake up the amp modeling landscape, offering Nano Cortex users a wealth of new sonic tools without any additional cost – a stark contrast to some competitors who charge for significant updates.
“Nano Cortex was designed to deliver professional sound in a radically compact form – and with NanOS 2.0.0, it’s now even more powerful, flexible, and inspiring to play,” stated a Neural DSP spokesperson. “This update reflects everything we believe modern gear should be: uncompromising in sound, intuitive in design, and ready for any studio, stage, or session.”
Neural DSP co-founder Francisco Cresp added, “As a musician, you never stop evolving. Neither do we. NanOS 2.0.0 is our answer to everything players have asked for and more. This is your tone, your way, with no compromises.”
On The Move
To showcase the power of NanOS 2.0.0, Neural DSP has released a new performance video featuring renowned musicians Cory Wong, Henrik Linder, and Jack Gardiner, filmed against the stunning backdrop of the Matterhorn in Zermatt, powered solely by the updated Nano Cortex, portable speakers, and a USB power bank.
This update signals a bold move by Neural DSP to solidify the Nano Cortex’s position as a leading force in the compact amp modeling market.
