Third Man Hardware, founded by Jack White, has partnered with the innovative team at Black Mountain Designs to unveil the Roto-Echo Delay, a new guitar pedal designed to bring real-time, hands-free sound manipulation to the stage. This unique stompbox replaces traditional knobs with a foot-controlled roller wheel, empowering guitarists to shape their delay tones on the fly.
Roto-Echo
Unlike other pedals that require a player to bend down to make adjustments, the Roto-Echo features a smooth, spring-loaded roller wheel on its top surface. This allows guitarists to use their foot to control key delay parameters—including blend, feedback, and delay time—in the middle of a performance.

Freewheel
This groundbreaking design, which Black Mountain calls its “Freewheel Technology,” makes it possible to perform expressive effects like delay swells, dynamic shifts, and rhythmic changes with a simple foot motion.

Key Features:
- Foot-Controlled Roller Wheel: Assignable to delay time, feedback, or blend for real-time adjustments.
- Analog-Style Echoes: Based on the PT2399 chip, providing warm, classic delay tones.
- Wide Delay Range: From short 30ms slapbacks to long 600ms repeats.
- Built for the Road: A compact and rugged design rated for full body weight.
- True Bypass: Ensures your clean signal remains unaffected when the pedal is off.
- Power: 9V DC (center negative), with a current draw of less than 100mA.

A New Approach to an Old Sound
At its core, the Roto-Echo’s delay circuit is built around the classic PT2399 chip, known for its warm, gritty, analog-style echoes. The pedal delivers a versatile range of delay times, from a quick slapback at 60ms to long, ambient repeats up to 588ms.
The real innovation, however, lies in how the player interacts with these sounds. The roller wheel is tough enough to handle a guitarist’s full body weight, ensuring durability and reliability on any stage.

Stage Ready
This rugged, pedalboard-friendly design allows for creative soundscapes and dynamic shifts that were once confined to the studio or relied on cumbersome presets.

Price & Availability
The Roto-Echo Delay is available now for a street price of $279.
