Solar Guitars has officially pushed the boundaries of boutique instrument design with the release of The Predator, the latest limited-edition run from their prestigious Chop Shop series.
This isn’t just a new model; it is a fusion of high-performance engineering and fine art. Each guitar in this exclusive series is hand-painted by the world-renowned visual artist Costin Chioreanu, making every instrument a one-of-a-kind collector’s piece.
The Intersection of Heavy Metal and Sci-Fi Horror
Costin Chioreanu, a name synonymous with the visual identity of extreme metal, drew inspiration from the dark, cinematic atmosphere of classic science fiction. For Chioreanu, the “predator” concept is the ultimate personification of the tension and brutal force found in a great heavy metal riff.
“I was always a fan of good Sci-Fi Horror and I always felt it works hand-in-hand with great heavy metal music,” Chioreanu explained. “The tension, the unknown, the darkness, the danger—the brutal force of alien predators—these are the great sources of inspiration to write a very good riff.”
Hand-Painted Artistry: No Two Guitars Alike
Unlike standard factory-line graphic finishes, The Predator features completely handmade acrylic paintings. Assembled and finished in Spain, the guitars represent the pinnacle of the Solar Guitars Chop Shop philosophy: bringing custom-shop quality to the modern metal player.
The design itself is visceral and gruesome. It depicts the wounded body of an apex extraterrestrial hunter, with “Electric Green” blood erupting from the guitar’s core. Because each body is painted individually by Chioreanu, no two copies are identical.
“The whole design is completely handmade… Each copy is different, a unique piece of art,” says Chioreanu. “And this electric green blood is flying out from the core of this beast guitar.”

“Because Solar has this unique beasty character, it simply works the best when covered in the flesh and (green) blood of the most dangerous alien,” the artist noted.
