Gibson, a revered name in the world of rock ‘n’ roll guitars, has recently expanded its unique One of One Custom Shop collection. The latest addition includes three exceptionally striking Flying Vs, each giving a nod to the surf culture of Southern California.
One of One Flying Vs
The newly unveiled trio of Gibson Custom Shop One of One Flying V models draws inspiration from one of the rarest and most sought-after vintage instruments – the Korina Flying V, first introduced in 1958. However, Gibson has taken a bold step away from the original Natural color scheme, as well as the traditional finishes like Ebony, Cherry, or Vintage White. Instead, they’ve opted for some truly vibrant alternatives.
Surf-inspired
The collection features the guitars in eye-catching hues like Kerry Green VOS, Frost Blue VOS, and Antique Pelham Blue. These colors are a significant departure from what you’d typically expect on a ’58 Korina Flying V. Especially with their surf-inspired green and pastel blue finishes.
However, we have seen Pelham Blue also used on the limited-run Richie Faulkner Flying V Custom.
In terms of functionality, these guitars stay true to the legendary ‘58 Korina V design. Each guitar boasts a Korina body and a matching ‘50s profile neck. They have an Indian rosewood fretboard that has 22 frets and a 12-inch radius. The attention to detail extends to the hardware as well, with features like a true ABR-1 bridge, Lacquered Brass Chevron tailpiece, a four-ply white pickguard, Kluson Single Ring tuners, aged gold hardware, and True Historic Black knobs.
Custombuckers
The sound quality is taken care of by a pair of Custombuckers, complete with aged gold humbucker covers, and controlled by two volume knobs, a master tone control, and a three-way toggle switch. These elements combine to create a guitar that not only looks stunning but also delivers the exceptional sound Gibson is known for.
Pricing
While these pastel-colored ‘58-style Flying Vs are undoubtedly enticing, there’s a catch. Being part of the exclusive One of One Custom Shop collection, each model is a unique, one-of-a-kind build. Priced at $11,000 each. This exclusivity adds to their allure but also means they are a significant investment for guitar enthusiasts.
The collection also includes one-of-a-kind Les Pauls, SGs, ES-335s, and other models, all inspired by suggestions from the creative minds at the Gibson Garage.
