Gretsch has unveiled a new signature guitar, the Electromatic Broadkaster, crafted in partnership with John Gourley of Portugal. The Man.

This Gretsch John Gourley Broadkaster embodies a blend of durability, affordability, and striking aesthetics, designed to resonate with the essence of Motown for today’s musicians. Gourley, a Grammy-winning artist, describes the creation of this guitar as a fulfilment of a lifelong dream, emphasizing its resilience and approachable price.
It follows the recent announcement of the Limited Edition Gretsch boygenius Broadkaster Jr model.
Cleon Peterson
John Gourley, along with artist Cleon Peterson, meticulously selected each element of the guitar to ensure it delivers the iconic Gretsch sound that has become a staple in his music. Drawing inspiration from his Alaskan upbringing and influences like Motown and The Beatles, Gourley sees this guitar as an extension of his musical identity. He recounts a transformative experience in a Tennessee guitar shop where he first encountered the distinctive Gretsch sound, a moment that profoundly influenced his musical journey.
Peterson’s art includes the cloud fretboard inlays, the bespoke truss rod cover, a metal head badge, and the graphic on the pickguard,
The guitar features a double-cutaway maple body, slightly thinned by Gourley for ease of handling, and a chambered spruce centre block for enhanced resonance. Its maple neck, shaped in a thin U-profile, is topped with a laurel fretboard, 22 medium jumbo frets, and unique pearloid cloud inlays designed by Peterson, adding a playful and distinctive touch.
It comes in an Iridescent Black finish with silver sparkle binding and nickel hardware. This hardware includes a Bigsby B70 vibrato and an Anchored Adjusto-Matic bridge.
USA Full’Tron
Gourley retained the original USA Full’Tron pickups for their unmatched quality, complemented by a B70 Bigsby vibrato tailpiece for added flair and durability. The guitar is designed to withstand the rigours of energetic performances, reflecting Gourley’s dynamic stage presence.
