Fender Custom Shop has released a meticulous recreation of the late Joe Strummer’s iconic 1966 Fender Telecaster. This limited-edition guitar is a dream come true for die-hard Clash fans and serious collectors, but with a price tag of $20,000, it’s definitely a high-end instrument.
A Relic Fit for a Punk Legend
The guitar is a painstaking replica, featuring a “Super Heavy Relic Aged” black over three-color sunburst finish that captures every nick, scratch, and worn spot of Strummer’s original instrument. This “pro relic” treatment extends to the maple neck with its mid-60s C profile and the round-laminated rosewood fingerboard.
Sound that Rocks
Despite its aged appearance, this Strummer Tele is built to perform. A pair of hand-wound Josefina Campos ’67 Telecaster pickups deliver the assertive, aggressive tone Strummer was known for, while modern Tele wiring with a three-way selector switch, volume, and tone controls provide tonal flexibility.
Authenticity Down to the Details
The guitar features a two-piece select alder body, 21 Jescar Vintage frets, Schaller M6 mini tuners, and a six-saddle string-through-body Telecaster bridge.
But it’s the details that truly set this guitar apart. Senior Master Builder Paul Waller meticulously recreated all the wear marks and stickers from Strummer’s well-worn Tele, ensuring an authentic look and feel.
More Than Just a Guitar
The Limited Edition Masterbuilt Joe Strummer Telecaster comes complete with a replica touring case, a signature strap, and a certificate of authenticity, making it a collector’s dream package.
For the Discerning Fan
While the price tag may limit this guitar to serious collectors, it’s a remarkable tribute to Joe Strummer and his legacy. Fender also offers more affordable Joe Strummer signature accessories like guitar cables, straps, picks, and hard-shell cases for fans who want to channel their inner Strummer.
A standard Fender Joe Strummer Telecaster is much more affordable, and you can add more of your own aging as you play it.
