Aria Guitars honors the Metallica legend with the Aria Pro II Cliff Burton Signature SB-CLB, debuting at NAMM 2026. Discover the specs and release details here.

Four decades after the music world lost a pioneer, Aria Guitars has announced the return of a legend. In honor of the 40th anniversary of the passing of Metallica’s iconic bassist, the company is reviving the Aria Pro II Cliff Burton Signature Bass (SB-CLB), set for a grand debut at NAMM 2026.

This reissue marks a significant moment for metal history, bringing back the “underrated” instrument that defined the aggressive, lead-bass style of Metallica’s early years.

Honoring a Heavy Metal Legacy

While Cliff Burton never had an official signature model during his lifetime, his affinity for the Aria Pro II SB-series was well-documented. The original signature tribute was launched in 2013 with the blessing of the Burton family and Metallica. Now, 13 years after that initial run, Aria is refreshing the model for a new era.

According to an official statement from Aria:

“The legend returns. This special model honors Cliff Burton’s groundbreaking tone and legacy, created for a new generation of players.”

Technical Specs: What We Know (And What We Expect)

Aria is keeping the specific 2026 hardware updates under wraps until the show floor opens. However, fans are speculating whether the SB-CLB will retain the premium “golden era” specs of the 2013 version, which included:

  • Body: Solid Alder

  • Neck: 7-piece Maple/Walnut neck-through construction

  • Fingerboard: 24-fret Rosewood with signature oval inlays

  • Bridge: Solid Brass tailpiece with 24K Gold-Plated saddles

  • Electronics: A single, high-output Aria MB-V passive pickup

Aria emphasizes that the SB-CLB is a “serious performance instrument,” suggesting it has been optimized to handle the rigors of modern touring and high-gain amplification.

  • Public Release Date: Scheduled for Spring 2026

Previous 2023 Model

NAMM 2013 saw the previous release of this model.

The journey to the SB-CLB began with a deeply emotional tribute ceremony featuring Cliff’s father, Ray Burton. Standing before hundreds of fans, Ray shared intimate stories of Cliff’s early years, his relentless practice routines, and the pivotal moment he joined Metallica. Proving the lasting impact of his son’s work, Ray spent hours signing autographs and connecting with the community that keeps Cliff’s memory alive.

Adding to the gravity of the event, Faith No More drummer Mike Bordin—one of Cliff’s closest childhood friends—joined the stage to discuss Burton’s musical genius. Bordin provided a rare glimpse into the creative mind of the man who redefined the bass guitar’s role in heavy metal.
