Bogren Digital’s Ampknob BDH plugins give users access to three incarnations of classic high-gain tube guitar amplifiers for your DAW. Users can work fast via the simple user interface and get high-quality results fast.
Ampknob BDH
The Ampknob BDH plugins have been expertly sound-designed by renowned metal producer Jens Bogren. Their feature set includes flexibility and also ease of use. Making them perfect for anyone wanting to record high-quality guitar tones without any fuss.
I’m pretty sure that you can guess which famous amps this range is based on (err? Peavey) and the very famous, late guitarist associated with them, may he rest in peace.
The three Ampknob BDH plugins can be purchased individually or through the Ampknob BDH Bundle.
5169
First, up is the BDH 5169 which is based on the original block letter amp head, which came out in 1992.
It has an aggressive and punchy high-gain tone that quickly made it a hit among heavy metal and metalcore bands from the mid-90s and onwards.
66o6+
BDH 66o6+ is based on a hot-rodded and heavily modified “plus” version, which was originally a later generation of the amp from around 2000.
The modifications make the amp particularly suited to low-tuned guitars and energetic riffing. Perfect for tight low-end riffing.
III
Finally, BDH III is a model of an amp that was the last version to come out before the original artist’s untimely passing.
The original unit that they have modelled is from Jens Bogren’s personal amp collection and is an amp that has been used on many albums created at Fascination Street Studios.
This is the most modern sounding of the three amps on offer and has a very even distortion that makes it great for lead guitars.
Impulse Responses
Each plugin also gives you access to a virtual speaker cabinet and microphone. The recording chain has been dialled in by producer Jens Bogren to capture the best tone.
If you feel like experimenting, you can disable the cab or even load your favourite Impulse Response right from the plugin.
Extra Features
With Ampknob, you can capture your ideas quickly and easily without even starting a DAW as it has its own record button. The standalone version also comes with a built-in metronome. It allows users to change the meter, accent or set automatic speed increments.
Plus, there is a tuner within the plugin as well.
I like that every amp in the BDH collection includes a pedal switch. This is activated with the push of a button on the plugin’s front panel. The pedal will effectively tighten up the low end and drive the input a bit harder. Making it perfect for heavy riffing.
Formats
The Ampknob BDH plugins come in VST3 / AU / AAX and Standalone formats, making them useable in most DAWs.
- Windows 10 or newer
- Mac OS 10.13 or newer (Intel & M1 Native)
