Catalinbread has announced the highly anticipated release of the Filter Verb, the second installment in its experimental Proto Club series. This unique reverb-chorus-resonant filter hybrid, years in the making, promises to redefine ambient and modulated soundscapes for guitarists and synth players alike.

Available in strictly limited quantities, the Filter Verb will only be up for grabs from July 29 to August 12, exclusively through the Proto Club.

The Genesis of a Groundbreaking Pedal

Unlike its Proto Club predecessor, the Tritone (similar to the Soft Focus), which came together swiftly, the Filter Verb’s journey has been one of patient evolution.

Filter Verb

This unique circuit was originally conceived from an attempt to distill rich, shoegaze-inspired ambient tones out of a discontinued, performance-focused platform. Rather than being a quick development, this design has quietly refined itself behind the scenes for years.

Unleashing Creative Control: Key Features & Functionality

At its core, the Filter Verb is a meticulously crafted blend of three distinct effects, designed for maximum interactivity and sonic exploration. Its controls offer a wide spectrum of tonal possibilities, rewarding both experimentation and expressive playing.

  • Lush Reverb & Resonant Filter: The central Filter knob, or an external expression pedal, precisely controls the cutoff point of a thick, resonant low-pass filter. This allows users to sculpt the bottom end of their reverb-drenched signal, from subtle warmth to dramatic sweeps. The F/C toggle dedicates expression pedal control to the filter for real-time manipulation, enabling dynamic sonic shifts.
  • Dynamic Chorus: The Chorus control masterfully governs both rate and depth with a single knob, enabling a spectrum of modulation from delicate shimmer to wild, seasick warbles. Flipping the F/C toggle to Chorus transforms the expression pedal into a dynamic control for pitchy pulses and expansive ambient swooshes, adding another layer of expressive movement.
  • Interactive Reverb Momentary Switch: This highly interactive footswitch activates a roomy, expansive reverb only for as long as it is pressed. This feature is ideal for swelling into massive ambient hits, creating dramatic transitions, or adding sudden bursts of ethereal space, allowing for spontaneous and impactful sound design.
  • Preamp Overdrive: The Pre knob offers gain control for the onboard preamp. Pushing this control can introduce warm, blooming overdrive before the signal even enters the reverb filter network, adding harmonic richness and grit to the effected sound.
