Tim Commerford fans, get ready! Following the highly sought-after limited run in late 2024, Ernie Ball Music Man has officially launched the Tim Commerford Artist Series StingRay Bass as a standard production model. This time, the signature bass from the legendary Rage Against the Machine bassist is available in three striking new colors.
A Legendary Collaboration
Created in close partnership with Commerford, this signature StingRay bass combines the renowned craftsmanship of Ernie Ball Music Man with the bassist’s unique design preferences.
The new standard release includes two versions of the bass: a passive model and an active model, each with its own exclusive finish.
Construction
The basses feature an ash body and a roasted maple neck with an ebony fretboard. The neck is finished in oil and wax for a smooth feel and features a sculpted 5-bolt neck join for easy access to all 22 stainless steel frets. A compensated nut ensures perfect intonation across the fretboard.

Tone and Features for the Modern Bassist
Both the active and passive models are equipped with a powerful StingRay humbucking pickup with neodymium magnets. This provides increased output and a wide range of tones, perfect for everything from Commerford’s aggressive rock style to more subtle grooves.
To enhance playability, the pickup system also includes a beveled cover with an integrated thumb rest and an adjustable finger ramp, making it comfortable for fingerstyle players.
The New Finishes: Passive vs. Active
The Passive Model: Fight Night White
The passive version, finished in a sleek Fight Night White, offers a ton of tonal versatility. It features a 3-position rotary switch that lets you select between parallel, single-coil, and series pickup configurations. A push-volume control adds a passive gain boost for when you need to cut through the mix.
The Active Model: Caliper Red
For players who prefer aggressive tone-shaping, the active model in Caliper Red is the perfect choice. This version features an 18-volt preamp and a 3-band EQ for precise tonal control. It also includes black hardware, a string-through-body bridge with red mute pads, and Commerford’s custom height-adjustable finger ramp.
The Vault Exclusive: Natural Finish
In addition to the standard colors, Ernie Ball Music Man is offering a Vault Exclusive Natural Finish that is available directly from their website. This exclusive option is available for both the passive and active versions of the bass.
This standard release is sure to please many fans who missed out on the initial limited-edition run. With its blend of vintage StingRay style and modern features, the Tim Commerford Artist Series bass is a powerful instrument designed for the discerning player.

Sweetwater Exclusive: Brake Dust
There is also an exclusive Sweetwater finish available called Brake Dust for the passive model.
