A Closer Look at Unprecedented Detail

Every aspect of the SJ-200 Monarch #100 is designed to be extraordinary. The top is made from select AAA Sitka spruce, while the back and sides feature stunning Brazilian rosewood, sourced from the exclusive Gibson Custom Wood Library. The neck, a two-piece AAA maple with Indian rosewood stringers, ensures both stability and a rich tonal foundation.

The headstock alone is a marvel. The hand-engraved crown inlay is set with nine natural diamonds, each 0.1 carats, and is topped with a single 0.25-carat diamond, all in a setting of 1.2 ounces of solid 18K gold. Complementing this exquisite detail are open-gear Waverly tuners with hand-engraved buttons.

Opulent Details

The artistry extends beyond the headstock. The body features 14K gold rope binding on the top and double-width abalone purfling, creating a striking contrast.

The Brazilian rosewood fingerboard is adorned with mother-of-pearl and abalone Monarch Crown inlays, while the Brazilian rosewood “Moustache” bridge is set with real diamonds in its gold end pins.

More Than Just a Collector’s Item

While the SJ-200 Monarch #100 is an ultimate collector’s piece, it is also, at its core, a high-performance acoustic guitar. The legacy of the SJ-200 dates back to 1937, when Gibson created a “big guitar” for cowboy singer Ray Whitley.

The model quickly became the flagship of the brand’s acoustic line, known for its powerful projection and rich tone.

Made to Measure

Don Ruffatto, project manager for Gibson’s Acoustic Made to Measure program, explained the vision behind the Monarch series: “In 1994, we wanted to put a stamp on what we were creating in Montana… to take the SJ-200 to the ultimate level and do things that have never been done before.”

The Monarch #100 continues this tradition, representing the pinnacle of that artistic and engineering ambition.
