This Jimi Hendrix Owned and Played 1962 Fender Jazzmaster in Sunburst is up for sale on Reverb.com and can be yours for the princely sum of £564,765.62 plus shipping!
Jimi Hendrix’s 1962 Fender Jazzmaster
Hendrix is well documented playing this 1962 Fender Jazzmaster. He was seen frequently backing the Isley Brothers and Little Richard while wielding the offset. He would have this Sunburst model hung upside down, and you can see him playing it in the backing bands between 1964 and 1965.
Upside Down Offset
This guitar, with its unique wear pattern , possibly from being strung upside down, to accommodate Jimi being left handed, is now up for sale on the Reverb site, and the listing is being run by a well known dealer of collectible guitars.
With no images of the rear of the instrument or where the strap buttons would need to have been relocated, we have to assume the provenance provided is 100% solid. Though there is an image of the headstock with cigarette burns on the correct side, for a left handed player, in the Reverb listing.
Marshall Super Lead 100
It is listed as coming with “Letter of authenticity provided by 2 very prominent and extremely respected members from the musical/guitar world.” Which is perhaps a little vague, though the seller, Neil’s Gear Bazaar also has one of Jimi’s Marshall Super Lead 100 amp heads up for sale at a cool £263,557.29.
Rock History
This amp head is listed as “Jimi Hendrix Owned/Used/Recorded 1969 Marshall Superlead 100 Amplifier Serial # Sl/100XX built in March,1969.”
If you are a fan of Hendrix and have deep pockets, then these two pieces of rock and roll history could be for you.
I believe this is the same guitar as shown in the video below, which was on sale at Rudy’s Music Soho.
