The Gibson Adam Jones Flying V Collector’s Edition is officially out today. They are only making 50 guitars so it is a very limited run.

It is available here from Thomann.

This exceptional guitar, tailored to Jones’ preference for weightier instruments, features a solid, non-weight-relieved mahogany body, string-through ferrules, and a futuristic split headstock design. It is adorned with custom features including a truss rod cover with unique artwork and an intricately applied Reverse Antique Silverburst finish.

Expertly aged by the Murphy Lab artisans, this limited edition will see only 50 units crafted by skilled luthiers and artisans at the Gibson Custom Shop in Nashville, Tennessee, making it a rare and extraordinary addition to any collection.

The Gibson Adam Jones Custom Silverburst Flying V has leaked online, as a US dealer uploaded some basic details for it. This page has now been pulled, but we have a price and an image of the new signature guitar.

It has a reverse Silverburst finish and a split V headstock shape taken from the Gibson 58 Futura headstock design.

This Collectors Edition looks like a Murphy Lab-aged Custom Shop model and like the one Adam Jones has been seen using live with Tool. A guitar he frequently shares images of on his Instagram account.

Murphy Lab?

Priced at nearly $20k I’m guessing this limited run will be an aged Murphy Lab recreation of Adam’s touring Flying V model.

Back in September 2022, Jones made the following statement about this guitar on his Instagram account:

This is NOW one of my TOP favorite guitars of ALL TIME  🙌🏽
*A Stellar Custom Vintage Aged REVERSE Silverburst @gibsonguitar Flying V with a beautiful Murphy Lab finish
My dream guitar made true by my good friend @gueikian
THANK YOU AMIGO 🤘🏽🔥
A very rewarding collaboration with @matkoehler and the @gibsoncustom
I always loved the 1958 Futura headstock & ask if Gibson team would be willing to pull it out of retirement
I believe it’s one of the heaviest Flying V‘s Gibson has ever made to date  👀
The overall tone – lows/mids/highs are amazing and the heavy body weight also helps me control feedback and sustain just like my vintage LPCs
I played this epic instrument on stage during the last 2022 @toolmusic tour and it’s sound & performs killer!
*Only 3 prototypes in existence.

Release Date?

I’m also guessing that we might see this new Flying V either sometime before the end of 2023 or perhaps around the time of Winter NAMM in early 2024.

Even if Gibson doesn’t attend the show itself, it would still be a good time to release this model sometime in the next 3-4 months, as the hype has been building for a year now.

  1. The head stock is from the Gibson MODERNE. I wonder if Gibson will release a ‘standard’ version and if Epiphone will follow suit
