Line 6 has significantly upped the ante for players using digital amp modelers and compact simulation pedals with the introduction of the Powercab CL active guitar speaker series. Available in both 1×12 and 2×12 formats, the Powercab CL is engineered to bridge the gap between digital realism and the physical feel of a traditional guitar amplifier, offering an unprecedented selection of switchable virtual speaker voicings.
The new series was subtly unveiled alongside the highly anticipated Helix Stadium amp modelerat the recent Guitar Summit in Germany, solidifying Line 6’s commitment to providing complete, professional solutions for the digital guitarist.
More Than FRFR: Analog Feel for Digital Tone
While Line 6 is known for pioneering FRFR (Full-Range, Flat-Response) speakers like the renowned Powercab Plus, the Powercab CL takes a different approach.
Line 6 states the CL series is not FRFR. Instead, it’s designed to deliver versatile, authentic sound for amp modelers and compact amp-simulation pedals by providing the tonal equivalent of running a digital rig through classic, guitar-voiced speakers.

This unique functionality is achieved through Line 6’s patented speaker voicing technology, allowing the physical 12-inch driver(s) to adopt the sonic characteristics of six iconic speaker models.

Six Switchable Speaker Voicings for Instant Tone
The central innovation of the Powercab CL is its six-way rotary dial, which selects between six finely tuned virtual speaker emulations.
These voicings interact with the custom-loaded physical speaker, translating the digital signal into a real-world amp feel.
The modeled classics include:
Virtual Voicing | Modeled Speaker/Cabinet | Classic Amp Reference |
Crisp | Roland JC120 Combo Speaker | Clean, punchy jazz tones |
Jetson | Jensen C12K | High-headroom, modern tones |
Essex | Celestion Alnico Blue | Classic British chime |
Green | Celestion G12M Greenback | Marshall Plexi-style aggression |
Vintage | Celestion Vintage 30 | High-gain rock and lead tones |
Jarvis | Jensen P12Q Alnico | Scooped, Fender-style tweed classic |
For players who prefer the unfiltered response of the hardware driver, the virtual speaker modeling can also be switched off entirely. An LED indicator ensures clarity on the selected voicing.

Professional Build and Connectivity
The Powercab CL cabinets feature an open-back design and a traditional aesthetic, making the transition to a digital rig seamless for purists.
- The Powercab CL 112 (1×12) delivers 100 watts of power.
- The Powercab CL 212 (2×12) offers a formidable 200 watts.
Both models include a familiar and intuitive 3-band EQ (Low, Mid, High) for tone shaping.
For direct integration into a PA or studio setup, the Powercab CL includes a balanced XLR output with a ground lift and switchable Impulse Responses (IRs).

Users have access to six factory IRs and six user-loadable slots. MIDI input and a USB port allow for firmware updates and easy IR management via the dedicated Powercab CL IR Loader app. When running direct, the speaker voicings and EQ can be bypassed.
