MXR has launched a new special edition Randy Rhoads Distortion+ pedal, paying tribute to the legendary guitarist with a striking new design. This latest stompbox is inspired by Rhoads’ iconic Jackson Concorde guitar, marking the second pedal in a series dedicated to the late Ozzy Osbourne guitarist.
Randy Rhoads Distortion+
This release follows the highly sought-after, limited-edition polka dot Distortion+ pedal, which honored Rhoads’ famous Polka Dot V guitar. Both pedals were developed in close collaboration with the Rhoads family after they allowed the MXR team to inspect Randy’s original pedalboard.
This provided a blueprint for creating a pedal that accurately replicates the tone of his own beloved MXR Distortion box.

Meticulous Design and Authentic Tone
The new MXR Randy Rhoads Distortion+ features a sleek black and white finish that mirrors the classic Jackson Concorde’s aesthetic, complete with elegant gold knurled control knobs for its Output and Distortion parameters.
According to Dunlop, MXR’s parent company, the pedal was “painstakingly spec’d from Randy’s own MXR Distortion+” to ensure its sound is as authentic as its look. Each pedal comes with an exclusive collector’s booklet, offering a deeper dive into the gear and legacy of one of rock’s most influential guitarists.
The Jackson Concorde itself holds a legendary place in rock history. Designed in collaboration with Grover Jackson, the custom-built, shark-fin-inspired guitar launched the Jackson brand and became Rhoads’ go-to instrument on the road.
Pricing and Availability
The new Randy Rhoads MXR Special Edition Distortion+ is available now for $199.99/£199.99. Given the swift sell-out of the previous polka dot model, fans and collectors are encouraged to act quickly.
