Nux has officially launched the Amp Academy Stomp, a compact yet powerful amp modeler designed to bridge the gap between their popular Amp Academy and larger flagship units, such as the Trident and MG series. This new 3-switch pedal in the Monarch series boasts Nux’s advanced TSAC-4K physical modeling, promising unprecedented realism and versatility for guitarists on stage and in the studio.
Amp Academy Stomp
The Amp Academy Stomp leverages a dual-DSP architecture, dedicating separate processors to its acclaimed amp modeling and a comprehensive suite of effects, including delay and reverb. At its core is the proprietary TSAC-4K White-Box physical modeling algorithm, now twice as complex as previous iterations.
This cutting-edge technology meticulously simulates both the preamp and power amp sections independently, offering a level of dynamic response and feel akin to a genuine tube amplifier.
Players can even dial in classic setups, including the four-cable method or “patch-jump” Plexi-style tones, with ease.
CYBER IR engine
Adding to its authentic sound, it features a dual-channel CYBER IR engine with 1024-sample resolution, providing high-fidelity, separate cabinet simulations for left and right outputs. With 100 IR slots (60 factory, 40 user-loadable), guitarists have an expansive palette of speaker emulations at their fingertips.
Beyond its core amp and cab modeling, the unit includes nine effect blocks (Noise Gate, Compressor, Effects, Amp, EQ, Send/Return, IR, Delay, Reverb).
The signal chain is highly customizable, allowing users to freely reorder the first five processing blocks and configure the send/return loop for serial or parallel connections.
This flexibility enables complex sonic sculpting, such as placing stereo delays post-amp or subtle EQ adjustments before the IR.
Color LCD
Designed for the modern guitarist, it offers intuitive control via two data dials, four rotary controls, and a vibrant 2.86-inch color LCD. Deep editing capabilities are unlocked by connecting to a PC or Mac via the USB-C port, utilizing the free Amp Academy Stomp software.
The USB-C port also doubles as a 24-bit/48kHz USB audio interface for direct recording into a DAW and supports wireless streaming of backing tracks via the included NBT-1 Bluetooth adapter.
On stage, the pedal shines with 27 preset slots, each featuring three scenes for seamless sound switching.
The three footswitches are fully programmable, and additional control can be achieved by connecting an external dual footswitch or expression pedal, or via MIDI In/Out (mini jack connections). A 30-second looper, capable of pre- or post-processing, further enhances performance options.
19 Amp Models
It expands on the original Amp Academy’s offerings, boasting 19 distinct amp models, including classics like Princeton, Jazz Chorus, and various Plexi stacks.
The independent preamp modeling allows for virtual versions of popular power tubes such as EL84s, EL34s, 6V6s, 6L6s, and solid-state options. Furthermore, Nux’s proprietary Image technology enables profiling of personal amplifiers and the loading of NAM profiles into the amp block.
Connectivity
With a comprehensive set of connectivity options, including 6.3mm jack outputs for guitar amplifiers and balanced L+R jacks for FRFR speakers or mixing consoles, an FX loop, stereo output, expression input, auxiliary input, and a headphone output.
Its ultra-low latency of under 2ms ensures a responsive playing experience.
Guitar Bomb Verdict
In summary, this new unit delivers the realism and features of a top-tier amp modeler in a compact, accessible, and affordable stompbox format, making it an exciting prospect for guitarists seeking premium tone without compromise.
