In collaboration with renowned guitarist Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age and Eagles of Death Metal, Peavey Electronics has unveiled the highly anticipated Joshua Homme Decade Too guitar amplifier. This reimagined version of the legendary vintage Decade practice amp, famously favored by Homme, promises to deliver powerful tones and unprecedented versatility to players of all levels.

Peavey and Josh Homme

Three years ago, Homme’s revelation of his secret weapon to producer Mark Ronson – the vintage Peavey Decade – sent shockwaves through the music world, driving up prices on the used market and igniting a fervent demand for its return.

Peavey has answered the call, meticulously recreating the iconic amp while incorporating modern enhancements.

A Modern Take on a Classic

The Decade Too, weighing only 12 lbs., boasts 10 watts of solid-state power channeled through an 8” speaker, delivering surprising volume and sonic punch.

The front panel features a single input preamp incorporating the original Decade circuitry with key refinements. The GAIN section now includes PRE and POST controls, offering greater tonal flexibility.

Peavey Saturation

The signature Peavey Saturation, now foot-switchable, provides tube-like sustain and overdrive at low volumes, ideal for bedroom practice, recording studios, and anywhere else inspiration strikes.

Enhanced bass and treble controls and new BASS and TOP enhancement switches designed by Homme expand the tonal palette.

The rear panel further distinguishes the Decade Too, featuring a TRS jack for remote switching of Saturation and effects loop defeat.

Balanced XLR Recording Out

A balanced XLR output with level control and ground lift facilitates direct recording, while a PREAMP OUT jack and phase switch provide additional power and acoustic feedback control. Two paralleled ¼” speaker outs allow connection to an 8-ohm extension cabinet, expanding the amp’s sonic potential.

The Decade Too Extension Cabinet

Completing the package is the Peavey Decade Too Extension Cabinet.

Housed in a stylish chrome stand, this 8” speaker cabinet offers exceptional portability and versatility. The tilt-swivel design ensures optimal sound projection and monitoring.

At the same time, the ability to stand the cabinet independently or stack it atop the amp provides maximum flexibility in various playing environments.

Guitar Bomb Verdict

This latest release from Peavey will be popular with guitarists and studio engineers, especially if they are fans of QOTSA and Homme’s guitar and bass tones on record.

The price is much less than (inflated/hyped prices) used examples, and it should have zero issues with buzzing and the joys of old used practice amps.
