PRS Guitars is marking its 40th anniversary with the introduction of a unique new model: the Custom 24 Satin. This limited-edition electric guitar features an eye-catching mango top and a sleek satin nitro finish, setting it apart from the brand’s traditional flagship model. Only 500 units will be available worldwide, making this a highly collectible piece for guitar enthusiasts and players alike.
A New Look and Feel for the Custom 24
In a bold departure from the customary maple top, the new Custom 24 Satin features a stunning mango wood top, which offers a distinct visual appeal and a unique tonal character. Paul Reed Smith, the company’s founder, praised the new wood choice, stating, “Our wood buyers search the world over for the most extraordinary tonewoods available. These mango tops… are visually stunning. They also have this ringing resonance to them.”
This is the same wood they used on the recent Mark Holcomb Core Signature models; it has a very distinct wood grain that works well with these satin finishes.
The guitar is finished with a satin nitro lacquer, giving it a smooth, tactile feel. It is offered in five vibrant finishes: Charcoal, Charcoal Tri-Color Burst, Faded Whale Blue, Fire Smokeburst, and Cobalt Smokeburst. Each model is equipped with Smoked Black hardware, including a Gen III patented tremolo system and Phase III locking tuners.

Modern Appointments and Classic Craftsmanship
While the top has been swapped for mango, the guitar retains a solid mahogany body. The neck features a comfortable Pattern Thin profile and is topped with a 10″ radius ebony fingerboard adorned with the iconic “old-school” bird inlays. The headstock also features an ebony veneer with a PRS “Pre-Factory” eagle inlay, a nod to the brand’s heritage.
DMO humbuckers
Powering the Custom 24 Satin are PRS’s new-for-2025 DMO humbuckers at the neck and bridge positions. The DMO name stands for “Dynamic, musical, open,” promising a versatile tonal palette suitable for a wide range of musical styles. These pickups are controlled by a five-way blade selector switch, along with master volume and tone controls.
A Collector’s Dream
Each of the 500 limited-edition guitars ships with a 40th-anniversary certificate hand-signed by Paul Reed Smith himself. This personal touch from the legendary luthier adds significant value and appeal for collectors.
