After a decade-long hiatus, PRS Guitars has brought back a fan-favorite, announcing the resurrection of its versatile S2 Mira electric guitar. The new S2 Mira 594 promises to be more refined and powerful than ever, with key upgrades that its makers say have finally helped the model find its “true voice.”

S2 Mira 594

Known for its budget-friendly appeal and exceptional playability, the Mira was originally introduced in 2007. It drew comparisons to classic 1960s solidbody guitars and was lauded for its stripped-down design and wide-ranging tonal capabilities.

Though it evolved through various PRS lines, the model was ultimately discontinued in 2013, leaving a void for players seeking a no-frills, high-performance instrument.

Key Upgrades for the Modern Player

The newly re-engineered S2 Mira 594 builds on the original’s legacy while incorporating significant enhancements that cater to today’s guitarists. The most notable changes include:

  • Shrunken Scale Length: The guitar now features PRS’s preferred 24.594” scale length, a subtle but impactful change from the original 25”.
  • New Neck Profile: A comfortable Pattern Thin neck shape replaces the former Pattern Regular, offering a sleek, fast feel.
  • Upgraded Pickups: The Mira is loaded with PRS 58/15 LT vintage-voiced humbuckers, which replace the older S2 Bass and Treble pickups, providing a richer, more nuanced tone.
  • Coil-Splitting Versatility: Two mini-toggle switches allow for individual coil-splitting of each pickup, expanding the tonal palette from warm humbucker sounds to crisp, single-coil voices.
  • Aesthetic and Fret Count: The guitar retains its classic all-mahogany body and neck, and rosewood fretboard, but now features the iconic Bird inlays and a full 24 frets.

“The S2 Mira 594 combines our 24.594” scale length with a Pattern Thin neck shape and a very straightforward feature set that provides an incredibly lively, simple-to-use tool to create music,” said PRS Guitars Director of Sales, Jim Cullen. “The Mira has had an interesting history, but I don’t think it found its true voice until now.”
