These new Shergold Provocateur Standard Series are priced at under £500 and are designed by Patrick James Eggle. Which puts them up against a lot of the competition.
Shergold Provocateur Standard Series
These are a more affordable take on their vintage-inspired Provocateur Classic single-cut design. The Shergold Provocateur Standard Series are priced well under £500 each, which puts them in the affordable mid-range guitar category.
I’m already guessing that these could do very well and one of Shergold’s other models has been included in our Best Guitars 2023.
Poplar Body
Specifications include a solid Poplar body paired with a bolt-on solid Candian maple 24.625” scale length neck and a 12″ radius Laurel fretboard. The fretboard is fitted with 22 medium jumbo hard nickel frets.
Finishes available include Dirty Blonde with a black pickguard and Mint Green with a cream pickguard.
Alnico V
They come fitted with a pair of Page Humbucker pickups with Alnico V magnets. These are controlled by a Volume, a Tone with a push/pull split, and a three-way pickup selector switch.
Hardware includes a fixed bridge with chrome saddles with a string-through-body design and a set of locking tuners.
Verdict
The price is very reasonable and they sell a gig bag separately if you need one. I can’t complain that a case/ gig bag isn’t included at this price point. The overall design looks classic and the two colour options look really good as well.
These could be great guitars for any guitarist looking for a Gibson-esque instrument (sure, this is a bolt-on neck, but the neck is very Gibson spec-wise), just at a far cheaper price point.
MSRP – GBP 409 (Gigbag available separately)
