Plus, David Grissom appears in a new video out today, all about this new model.

PRS SE DGT

The new PRS SE DGT has been unveiled gradually over the course of three videos released by the company on YouTube. This more affordable signature model for guitarist David Grissom looks set to be very popular and is allegedly coming out at under $1000.

“I didn’t just rubber stamp this. This guitar is something I have been very involved in and am really proud of. The SE Series is lightyears ahead of anything I could get my hands on when I started playing – it’s amazing how far the quality has come – and I am proud to be able to offer this guitar to more people,” David Grissom

DGT Core USA

Currently, the Core USA-built model is a big seller for the brand and so I can see this new version being a big seller. The DGT is based on the McCarty platform with a unique DGT neck shape, taller frets, special pickups, and a revised control layout. Grissom and Paul spent a year A/B-ing more than forty sets of pickups before nailing the vintage voice of DGT humbuckers.

“When we first decided to bring the DGT to the SE Series, I knew it would be a complicated project involving a lot of people. At the same time, I knew how beloved that guitar is and that we had the team to pull it off.”

“I wanted these videos to showcase the process of product development in general and working with David in particular. We are excited to give the world a behind-the-scenes view of what we do.”  Jack Higginbotham, PRS Guitars COO

January 2023

The official details should all be up on the PRS main site in January. For now, you can watch all three of the Making of the SE DGT videos below and see how they worked to get this guitar into production.

There is a lot of talk about getting the correct neck shape and making sure that the pickups are as close as possible to the USA Core DGT model. It looks like it is going to be a big release for PRS and I will keep you all updated when more news is released.

I own one of the USA DGT models myself and they are certainly great instruments. If PRS get this new SE DGT model right, then it will be a big deal for a lot of reasons. As they are very versatile guitars and perfect for many styles of music.

MSRP – A Goldtop version with Moon inlays is priced at $849, and a Tobacco Sunburst with ‘PRS Bird’ inlays for a light upcharge, priced at  $899.

  1. I have one on preorder, the advisor I work with tells me they should be coming in around “Probably April/May will be the first batch.” I sure hope it is sooner than that.

  2. I’m in the UK and have had one on order (the Goldtop) since February 2023. I had one arrive in March and it had a bad blemish – a knot in the wood binding, very obvious and distracting, so I returned it. It’s now the middle of May and no retailer here has any supplies, let alone the one I ordered it with. I see online there have been some other shocking QC issues – maybe PRS have paused fo thought? What is going on?

  3. I bought the tobacco sunburst,3 months ago,no issues but action very high ,had it set up and put locking tuners on it , great sounding guitar just about worth the money I bought it from g4music UK
