The newly updated Hudson Broadcast AP-II pedal looks pretty spectacular and is Ariel Posen’s latest signature Dual Preamp pedal  Ariel Posen is a singer, songwriter, producer, and internationally renowned guitar player. He is best known for his work as a sideman for the Bros. Landreth.

Two Circuits

The first circuit, equipped with a silicon transistor and transformer, echoes the warm, darker tones of the original Broadcast-AP. The second circuit offers a stark contrast; by removing the transformer and incorporating a germanium transistor, it delivers a brighter, more assertive sound. Both circuits boast an extensive gain range, allowing for a wide spectrum of effects from subtle boosts to intense distortions.

Key Features

Silicon Preamplifier Controls:
– Drive: Manages the silicon preamplifier’s gain.
– Level: Adjusts the output level of the silicon section.

– Germanium Preamplifier Controls:
– Drive: Controls the gain for the germanium preamplifier.
– Level: Regulates the output level of the germanium section.

– Send/Return Loop: This feature allows integration of other pedals between the two preamps or positioning each preamp at different points in the signal chain.
– Send: Outputs the signal from the silicon section to other pedals.
– Return: Brings the signal back into the pedal, acting as the input for the germanium section.

The pedal’s internal routing connects the silicon section to the germanium section unless the Send or Return jacks are used, providing flexibility in signal chain management.

Internal Controls

Additionally, the Broadcast AP-II houses four internal trim potentiometers for fine-tuning the gain and low-frequency content of each circuit.

Please note, the power supply is not included. The pedal requires a DC power supply unit (PSU) with specific requirements:
– Voltage range: 9VDC to 24VDC
– Regulated with a 2.1mm negative center barrel plug
– Isolated outputs are recommended for PSU sharing with other pedals.

With its dual-circuit design and versatile controls, the Broadcast AP-II stands as a testament to Hudson Broadcast’s commitment to quality and innovation in music technology.
