Guild updates to its Polara range, including a sleek Vintage White version of Kim Thayil’s iconic signature model. This refresh is part of a broader roll-out of new finishes and specifications across the 2024 Night Edition, Deluxe, and Standard models, all available for under $1,000.
Guild Polara
At NAMM 2024, Guild spotlights the Polara, an electric guitar model revered by many, including the legendary Soundgarden guitarist Kim Thayil. Known for its cult classic status, the Polara is set for a major comeback with eight new model options. The lineup includes the striking Vintage White Thayil signature guitar and a contemporary Tungsten-finished, single-pickup Night Edition.
Deluxe
The new Polaras span three series. The Deluxe models shine in Cherry Red and Vintage Sunburst, with an elegant Canyon Dusk metallic option adding to the allure. These upscale models feature bound rosewood fretboards and pearloid block inlays, priced accessibly at $699.
Standard
Guild’s base-level Standard Polara comes in Blue Steel, Phantom Green, and an eye-catching Voltage Yellow. Constructed from mahogany with a 24.75” scale length, these guitars boast a vintage soft U profile neck, a 12.5” fretboard radius, and are fitted with Guild HB-2 humbuckers.
Night Edition
The Night Edition trimmed-back, single humbucker option brings a blacked-out look, including a black metal headstock “Peak” logo and all-black hardware to compliment a dark Tungsten finish.
The Night and Standard editions, available for $549, offer great value without compromising on quality.
Differences
The Deluxe models offer dual volume and tone controls, while the Standard models have a simplified setup. All models feature the tune-o-matic bridge, with the Standard editions opting for a string-through-body design.
Kim Thayil signature
The standout is the Kim Thayil signature model, a long-awaited tribute to his 45-year legacy with Guild. In September 2023, Guild released two Thayil signature models: a master-built Guild USA Artist Edition S-100 Polara and a more accessible Newark St Collection model. The former features Honduran Mahogany and Jason Lollar hand-wound pickups, while the latter, like the new Vintage White model, retails at $899.
Signature touches include the King Animal truss rod cover, Badmotorfinger control plate, and HB-1 humbuckers. For more details on these stunning guitars, visit Guild Guitars’ website.
