Danny Sapko Wins: YouTube Drops Strike Over Fake Bassist
Danny Sapko wins: YouTube drops copyright strike after exposing fake bassist. YouTube sides with creator over weaponized copyright claim.

We’ve been following this story for the last week or so as it has unfolded, and today, we are thrilled to report a major victory for creator rights. We fully back Danny Sapko and are thrilled that YouTube has rightfully sided with him by officially removing the unwarranted copyright strikes against his channel.
Midi Vanilli
For those catching up, Sapko—a wildly popular bass player and YouTuber with over 620,000 subscribers—recently found himself at the center of a massive online guitar community scandal. Sapko’s channel is widely respected for calling out bad practices and exposing "fake playing" in the music sphere.
His recent target was Marcelo Perez Schneider, a viral Argentinian bassist whose hyper-technical, speed-tapping videos have historically drawn praise from rock heavyweights like Nuno Bettencourt, Kiko Loureiro, and Michael Anthony.

YouTube Strike
In a meticulous video that quickly amassed over a million views in less than two days, Sapko highlighted multiple audio and visual discrepancies in Schneider's content. By pointing out mistimed slides, suspicious song cuts, and mismatched phrasing, Sapko alleged that the viral bassist mimes to pre-programmed tracks live to fool his audience.
Instead of addressing the evidence, the backlash led Schneider to turn off his Instagram comments, while Sapko received a severe copyright strike over a mere seven-second, phone-filmed live clip used in his critique. The strike led to the exposé being pulled from YouTube entirely.
Copyright strikes are a creator's worst nightmare, stripping away monetization and threatening to erase the channel entirely. Sapko addressed the severity of the situation in a follow-up video, warning his audience, “I am one step away from whole channel deletion.”
He candidly shared the personal stakes involved, noting, “I started posting regularly on YouTube to get out of the job center. So, if you've ever thought about supporting this channel, now would be the time because I have had a proper wake-up today about how quickly this could all be taken away.”
Ola stepped in with support
Fortunately, the online guitar community refused to let him fight alone. Prominent figures like Ola Englund (another YouTube legend we follow) quickly rallied to Sapko's defense, slamming the weaponization of the platform's rules. “Using the copyright system to silence criticism is a dangerous thing,” Englund stated, urging viewers to flood Sapko’s channel with support.

Strike Removed!
Now, justice has been served: Sapko’s original video has been fully reinstated, and his record has been wiped clean of the strike.
