Have you ever completely botched a riff on stage and wished you could instantly route the sound to your bandmate's amplifier? After a decade of waiting, Queens of the Stone Age sonic architect Troy Van Leeuwen and boutique pedal wizard Dr. No have finally turned that rehearsal-room joke into a glorious, high-end reality.

Enter the TvL Blameshifter: a pedal born out of mischief, perfected by science, and steered by a severed finger.

The Ghost in the Drawer

The story of the Blameshifter is a decade in the making. Back in 2016, when Troy and Dr. No were collaborating on the now-legendary TvL Raven and TvL Octavia pedals, they had more ideas than they knew what to do with.

One particular inside joke from the QOTSA rehearsal space—a mythical pedal that could "shift the blame for a fuck-up to the other guy's amp"—was literally shoved into a drawer. The name "Blameshifter" was even secretly printed under the left skull knob of the original TvL Octavia as an inside wink.

Fast forward to summer 2026. The two artists finally reunited to celebrate their ten-year collaborative anniversary. The spark that reigned the engine? A severed finger that literally fell out of Dr. No’s drawer of abandoned ideas. One text message later—featuring a picture of the finger sitting on a blank pedal enclosure with the caption, "I think I've found the Blameshifter!"—and the ultimate routing wizardry was born.

What Does the Blameshifter Actually Do?

Don't let the hilarious premise or the slightly macabre severed-finger pointer fool you. Under the hood, Troy designed an ingenious multi-tool switching labyrinth, while Dr. No gave it its handcrafted soul.

At its core, the Blameshifter is a premium buffer, effects loop manager, and amp switcher. It features one main guitar input that hits an ultra-transparent buffer immediately—meaning absolutely zero tone loss, no matter how chaotic your routing gets.

When the pedal is OFF, your signal flows straight through the pristine buffer. When you stomp it ON, the severed finger points the way to one of four outputs:

  • Outputs 1 & 3 (The Loops): These act as dual switchable buffered effects loops or extra amp sends. Plug a massive chain of effects into the Return, and you can engage them all at once with a single stomp. Goodbye, pedalboard tap-dancing.
  • Output 2 (The A/B Marvel): This sends your buffered signal to a second amp. A micro-switch lets you choose between classic A/B routing (shifting your sound entirely to Output 2) or combining it with your main output to run wet/dry setups—or simply to create a massive wall of sound.

To top it off, Dr. No left the three output indicator labels entirely blank. You get to grab a dry-erase marker and name your favorite custom routings yourself.

Boutique Craftsmanship & Availability

Like all of Dr. No's "arteffects," the Blameshifter is built entirely by hand, from A to Z, ensuring it is as much a collector's piece of art as it is a road-ready musical tool. Because this isn't a mass-produced gadget, availability is highly limited.

The Details:

  • Release Date: October 25, 2026
  • Production: Strictly limited batches of 50 handmade units per series.
  • Price: €325 (Includes worldwide shipping).
  • What’s in the Box: The handmade Blameshifter, a custom hand screen-printed box with foam inlay, and a "Little Goodie Box" loaded with TvL and Dr. No stickers, custom picks, and buttons.

If you miss out on the first drop, don't panic—Dr. No will carefully craft more, though you might have to wait a little longer. For now, you can officially stop blaming the sound guy for your tone and start blaming your bassist instead.
