EVH Gear exists because Eddie Van Halen spent decades modifying instruments until he could simply build them instead. Launched with Fender in 2007, the brand makes the Wolfgang guitars, the Striped Series recreations of the Frankenstein, and the 5150 amplifiers whose gain structure defined a generation of rock tone. Who owns EVH?
Fender Musical Instruments Corporation. EVH is Eddie Van Halen's own brand, run under Fender — Van Halen joined Fender in 2005, and the guitars, amplifiers and pickups carrying the EVH name are developed and sold through it. That relationship has continued since his death in 2020.
What is the EVH Wolfgang?
Van Halen's signature guitar, named after his son. After joining Fender he rebuilt the earlier Peavey Wolfgang from the ground up with Fender Master Builder Chip Ellis from 2006. The redesign brought stainless steel frets, a 12-to-16-inch compound radius, custom Bourns potentiometers and an EVH-designed Floyd Rose bridge exclusive to the model.
What pickups does the Wolfgang use?
Wolfgang pickups made in-house at Fender, chosen after trying around 80 prototypes from Seymour Duncan and DiMarzio. They use Alnico 2 magnets and are direct-mounted to the body with two screws per leg over foam rubber, which lets the top of the pickup be set parallel to the strings.
Where are EVH guitars made?
It depends on the tier. The Wolfgang USA is built in Corona, California; the Wolfgang Special and the Striped Series come from Fender's Mexican and overseas plants. As with Fender's own lines, the price tells you the origin more reliably than the model name does.
