Who is Dave Friedman?
An amp technician who spent years modifying and maintaining amplifiers for touring guitarists before founding Friedman Amplification in Los Angeles in 2008. The company's reputation is built on that background — the BE-100 is essentially a production version of the hot-rodded Marshall he had been building for players one at a time.
What does BE stand for on a Friedman amp?
Brown Eye. The BE-100 is Friedman's flagship, a 100-watt high-gain head derived from his modified Marshall work, and the BE-OD pedal is the stompbox version of the same voicing. The names run through the range — the Dirty Shirley is the more vintage, less saturated design.
Are Friedman amps made in the USA?
The valve amplifiers are built in California. Friedman's pedals and some smaller products are manufactured overseas — the brand does not hide this, but it is worth checking the product page if domestic build is what you are paying for.
What is the Friedman IR-X?
A two-channel valve preamp pedal with onboard impulse responses, aimed at players going direct to a desk or an interface rather than into a cabinet. It is Friedman's answer to the modelling question — real valves in the preamp, digital only for the speaker simulation.
