Keeley Electronics

Robert Keeley started the company from his home in Oklahoma City in 2001, fresh out of an electrical engineering degree at the University of Oklahoma. He'd hoped to build amplifiers, found that market too crowded, and modified an old Ross compressor instead — while teaching at a technical college and hiring some of his own best students to help build them. Everything Keeley makes, from the circuit boards to the enclosures, is still assembled in Oklahoma rather than outsourced overseas, which is unusual for a pedal company at this scale. Multi-effect boxes and overdrive/compressor mods built on classic circuits are the backbone of what we cover. Here's what we've written.

Keeley Electronics FAQ4 questions

What is Keeley Electronics known for?

Compressors, and modifications. Robert Keeley started the Oklahoma City company in 2001 with the Keeley Compressor and a business modifying Boss and Ibanez pedals for other players — the modding reputation is what built the brand before its own range existed.

What makes the Keeley Compressor different?

It is an optical-style compressor voiced to stay musical at high ratios rather than to act as a studio tool, and it became the reference point that other guitar compressors get compared to. The current range includes several versions, from the simple two-knob layout up to the more configurable Compressor Plus.

Are Keeley pedals made in the USA?

Yes — Keeley builds in Oklahoma City. That has been true since the company started, and it is one reason the pedals sit above the mass-market price point without being boutique-scarce.

What is the Keeley Halo?

A dual-delay pedal developed with Andy Timmons, built around his layered delay approach — one delay feeding a second with a pitched, harmonised repeat. It is the sort of artist collaboration Keeley does regularly rather than a one-off signature box.
