ThorpyFX

Adrian Thorpe spent his career as a British Army explosive ordnance disposal officer, building pedals on the side as a form of relaxation because nothing on the market matched what he wanted for himself. His wife Georgia encouraged him to turn the hobby into a business after he left the army, and ThorpyFX released its first pedal, the Gunshot Overdrive, in 2015. The pedals are built around custom machined stainless steel enclosures — heavier and more expensive to produce than the usual diecast box, but part of why ThorpyFX has a reputation for genuinely rugged build quality. It's still a family operation, run from Wiltshire, England, by Adrian, Georgia and, by their own account, a dog named Oppenheimer. New releases and artist collaborations are what we cover most. Here's what we've written.

ThorpyFX FAQ4 questions

Where are ThorpyFX pedals made?

Brackley, England. ThorpyFX is a family-run business, with Adrian and Georgia running it and a small team of designers, in-house pedal builders and PCB builders alongside them. The pedals are handmade in the UK.

Who designs ThorpyFX pedals?

The in-house design team includes Dan Coggins, formerly of Lovetone — a name that carries weight in British pedal design. ThorpyFX says its pedals are benchmarked against the leading competition during development and tailored to beat them in every area.

What makes a ThorpyFX pedal expensive?

Component and construction choices the company is explicit about: Wima and Panasonic capacitors, 1% metal film resistors, off-board wired Neutrik jacks and switches so the PCB takes no physical stress, protection circuitry against incorrect power supplies, and a custom-built enclosure.

Where do the ThorpyFX names come from?

Mostly from military history — the founder's background is in the British Army, and model names and artwork draw on it. It is consistent branding rather than a theme applied to a single product line.
