What is the Vox AC30 famous for?
It is the sound of a great deal of 1960s British music. The AC30 was built by Vox in Dartford from the late 1950s, and its chiming, compressed top end and early breakup were used by the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, the Kinks and the Yardbirds, and later by Queen and Brian May in particular. The AC15 is the smaller, earlier version of the same idea.
Who owns Vox?
Korg. The original company was founded in 1957 by Thomas Walter Jennings in Dartford, Kent, and passed through several owners after the 1960s. Vox amplifiers are now designed and sold under Korg, which is why you will see Korg's name on the paperwork and the warranty.
Are Vox amps made in England?
Some are. Vox splits its range: the hand-wired and Custom AC models are built in the UK, while the standard AC and Valvetronix modelling lines are manufactured in Asia to hit their price points. The build country is stated on the amp and in the product listing, so check before you assume.
What is the difference between the AC30 and the AC15?
Volume, mostly. The AC15 is 15 watts through a single speaker; the AC30 is 30 watts, usually through two. Both share the same broad voice, but the AC15 breaks up at a level you can use in a room, while an AC30 stays clean far longer and needs a stage or an attenuator before it does the same thing.
