What is Z.Vex known for?
Hand-painted pedals and unpredictable circuits. Zachary Vex founded the company in Minneapolis in 1994, and it played a large part in popularising boutique pedals — the artwork and the small-batch model were as influential on the sector as the circuits were.
What is the Fuzz Factory?
A five-knob fuzz built around germanium transistors, with controls that push the circuit into oscillation, gating and self-generated squeals rather than only shaping a fuzz tone. It is the pedal the brand is defined by and it is closely associated with Matt Bellamy's rigs.
What is the difference between Vexter and Hand Painted Z.Vex pedals?
The finish and where it is applied. Hand Painted models are decorated individually and are the more expensive line; Vexter series pedals use printed graphics and cost considerably less. The circuits inside the two versions of a given pedal are the same.
What is a Super Hard On?
Z.Vex's clean boost, usually shortened to SHO — a single-knob transparent boost that adds level without colouring the signal much, useful for pushing an amp or a following pedal. The name is Z.Vex being Z.Vex; the pedal itself is one of the more practical things in the catalogue.
