The Diamond Dark Cloud, a long-awaited delay pedal, finally sees the light of day after years of development and the unfortunate closure of the esteemed Canadian boutique firm. This innovative pedal, now owned by SolidGoldFX, combines the best of Diamond’s previous delay designs with a groundbreaking new reverse mode.
Diamond Dark Cloud
Built around Diamond’s Digital Bucket Brigade Delay (DBBD), the Dark Cloud pedal offers three distinct delay modes:
- Tape: Inspired by Diamond’s Counter Point, this mode delivers saturated, warbling delays reminiscent of classic tape echo units.
- Harmonic Delay: Taking cues from the Quantum Leap, this mode provides delayed octave or fifth-above pitch-shifted sounds, adding a unique harmonic dimension to your signal.
- Reverse: A new mode that combines traditional backward delay with lo-fi filtering. The analog feedback path alternates between reverse and forward delays, creating a captivating “echoes bounding through a stormy canyon” effect.
Additional Features and Controls
- Simple Controls: The Dark Cloud features intuitive controls for Mix, Delay, Feedback, and Modulation, making it easy to dial in your desired sound.
- Tap Tempo: An onboard tap-tempo footswitch allows you to set the delay time with precise accuracy.
- Tap Subdivision: The Tap/Mode switch lets you select between quarter note, eighth note, and dotted eighth tap subdivisions.
- Doubler: A dedicated footswitch activates a Doubler feature, instantly doubling the delay tempo for rhythmic experimentation.
- Bypass Mode: Choose between Trails or Kill modes to determine how the delayed signal behaves when the pedal is bypassed.
- Compact Design: The Dark Cloud’s compact size and low power consumption (45mA at 9V) make it easy to integrate into any pedalboard setup.
