Some of the new Epiphone Inspired by Gibson models have already been announced on dealer sites;
Epiphone 1959 Les Paul Standard Factory Burst with Custombuckers, Epiphone Les Paul Custom Ebony with 490R Humbucker and 498T Humbuckers, and the Epiphone 1963 Les Paul SG Custom with Maestro Vibrola Classic White with Custombuckers.
Epiphone Guitars Easter Eggs
Gibson CEO Cesar Gueikian, known for his love of teasers, subtly unveiled three Epiphones with the Gibson-style headstock in a video focused on the Gibson Theodore Standard.
Fans spotted a white Les Paul Custom, an Alex Lifeson-inspired ES-355, and what could be a ’59 Les Paul Standard with Custom Shop pickups.
Open-book headstock
These would expand Epiphone’s use of the open-book headstock, previously exclusive to the Greeny and Adam Jones signature Les Pauls.
Inspired by Gibson Custom Shop
Gibson Brands’ Mat Koehler confirmed earlier this year that future open-book headstock Epiphones will belong to the higher-end “Inspired by Gibson Custom Shop” series.
Expect these guitars to be premium, likely priced over $1,000. Gueikian’s playful reveal suggests more information is imminent.
Are guitar buyers willing to pay a premium for Chinese-built guitars with a new headstock shape? Or will they look elsewhere for more value? This could be an interesting year for affordable guitars and brand names.
