Kansas City-based JHS Pedals has expanded its popular 3 Series line with three new effects pedals inspired by classic analog units: the Rotary Chorus, Tape Delay, and Oil Can Delay. These additions bring vintage tones to players at an accessible $99 price point.
JHS 3 Series
The 3 Series is known for its streamlined design, featuring a simple three-knob layout for intuitive control over each effect. However, a toggle switch on each pedal adds an extra layer of versatility, expanding the sonic possibilities.
The pedals also share a distinctive, utilitarian aesthetic reminiscent of minimalist branding.

Otto – Rotary Chorus
The Rotary Chorus, nicknamed “Otto,” emulates the swirling sound of a Leslie rotating speaker, a sought-after effect originally designed for Hammond organs.
Its three knobs control Volume, Intensity, and Speed, while the toggle switch offers further tonal shaping.
Oil Can Delay
The Oil Can Delay pays homage to the unique oil can delay units pioneered by Ray Lubow. These devices used a drum and belt system to create distinctive repeats. JHS Pedals head Josh Scott previously created a custom oil can delay for Wilco’s Nels Cline, hinting at the pedal’s unique character.
The production model features Mix, Speed (delay time from 100ms to 330ms), and Feedback controls, along with a toggle switch for selecting modulation intensity.

Tape Delay
Rounding out the new additions is the Tape Delay, offering the classic sound of vintage tape echo units like the Echoplex and Roland Space Echo.
While these vintage units are highly desirable, they are also expensive and require maintenance. The 3 Series Tape Echo provides a convenient and affordable alternative, with controls for Mix, Tape Speed (15ms to 950ms), and Repeats.
The toggle switch introduces the characteristic “mild modulation, warble, and flutter” associated with aged tape echo machines.
Power Requirements
All three pedals are powered by a standard 9V DC pedalboard power supply and are available for $99 each.
