In a move that has shocked the metal community, Mastodon has announced the departure of guitarist and co-founder Brent Hinds. The band revealed the news via social media on Thursday, March 7th, stating that the separation was a mutual decision.
Mastodon and Brent Hinds Part Ways After 25 Years
“Friends and fans, after 25 monumental years together, Mastodon and Brent Hinds have mutually decided to part ways,” the band wrote in an Instagram post.
Hinds, who formed the band in 2000 alongside guitarist Bill Kelliher, bassist Troy Sanders, and drummer Brann Dailor, has been an integral part of Mastodon’s distinctive sound and evolution.
The band expressed their gratitude for his contributions, saying, “We’re deeply proud of and beyond grateful for the music and history we’ve shared and we wish him nothing but success and happiness in his future endeavors.”
Hinds only recently teamed up with Woodrite Guitars on a limited run signature model and has a loyal following throughout the world of guitar and music worlds.

While neither the band nor Hinds have released specific details regarding the reasons for the split, Mastodon emphasized their commitment to their fans and future projects. “We are still very inspired and excited to show up for fans in this next chapter of Mastodon,” the statement continued. “As we move forward, all 2025 touring plans will remain intact. We look forward to seeing you on the road.”

Live Dates
This announcement comes as Mastodon are scheduled to perform at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, this weekend (March 7-9). The band also has a comprehensive American tour planned for May, followed by a series of European festival appearances this summer.

The departure of Hinds leaves a significant void in Mastodon’s lineup, but the band’s statement indicates their determination to continue performing and creating music.
Fans are now eagerly awaiting further updates and details about the band’s future direction.
