Renowned for its innovative acoustic guitars and groundbreaking advancements like the widespread adoption of rubber bridges, Orangewood Guitars is making a monumental leap into the electric guitar market with the launch of its first-ever electric model: the Del Sol Baritone. This visually striking and tonally versatile offset baritone guitar is the fruit of a long-anticipated collaboration with boutique luthier TreeTone Guitars.

The Orangewood Del Sol Baritone, priced at an accessible $695, represents a significant turning point in Orangewood’s evolution, as stated by co-founder Eddie Park. “The Del Sol Baritone marks a turning point in Orangewood’s evolution. It’s a fresh, distinctive kind of guitar that feels like the perfect introduction for those that only know us for our acoustics.”

A Fusion of Craftsmanship: Orangewood and TreeTone DNA

For years, Orangewood has solidified its reputation in the acoustic guitar world, pushing boundaries with unique collaborations like the short-scale acoustics with Ruben Wan and democratizing niche features like the rubber bridge mod.

Now, their entry into the electric guitar space is equally ambitious, blending Orangewood’s commitment to quality and affordability with TreeTone founder Josh Forest’s celebrated lutherie expertise and passion for nature.

The collaboration, four to five years in the making, leverages TreeTone’s acclaimed slick offset design – the regular Del Sol – as the foundation for this new baritone electric guitar.

Forest’s builds are known for their unique character and tone, qualities meticulously carried through to the Del Sol Baritone. As Forest himself notes, “It was immediately obvious that we were onto something really cool. Not only did the guitar look like a Del Sol I’d built, but it felt and sounded great, too.”

Designed for Resonance and Tone: Key Features of the Del Sol Baritone

The 27.5” scale semi-hollow Del Sol Baritone is a chambered mahogany body guitar, designed to offer an “ideal balance between weight and resonance.” This “East Coast sensibility with West Coast attitude” is apparent in every detail. Unlike TreeTone’s higher-end, made-to-order models, Orangewood’s version is readily available in two stunning finishes: Pitch Black and Sandstone, making premium design more accessible.

Key features that make this new baritone guitar a must-have for players exploring deeper tunings and rich tonal landscapes include:

  • Chambered Mahogany Body with F-Hole: For enhanced resonance and reduced weight.
  • C-Profile Roasted Maple Neck: Offering exceptional playability and stability.
  • 21-Fret Rosewood Fingerboard: Adorned with elegant acrylic white pearl block inlays.
  • Natural-Finish Headstock: Proudly displaying both Orangewood and TreeTone logos.
  • Vintage-Styled Grover Roto-Grip Locking Tuners: Ensuring superior tuning stability.
  • Tune-O-Matic Bridge with Stop Tailpiece: For reliable intonation and sustain.
  • Truss Rod Spoke Wheel: For easy neck adjustments.
  • Passive P-90 Pickups: Delivering a “broad tonal palette” capable of both beautiful cleans and powerful grit.
  • Mini Phase Switch: A handy bonus feature providing a vintage-style out-of-phase scoop in the middle position.
  • B-Standard Tuning: Ready to explore deep, resonant sounds right out of the box.
  • Brushed Aluminum Front Control Plate and TreeTone Logo Back Neck Plate: Adding refined finishing touches.

“His unique vision and attention to detail made him the ideal partner as we entered the world of electrics,” says Eddie Park, highlighting the synergy between the two companies. Josh Forest echoes this sentiment, expressing his excitement about making his designs available to a wider audience: “What excites me most is getting my designs into more players’ hands, which is something I couldn’t make happen all on my own.”
