A groundbreaking collaboration between Mick Taylor of That Pedal Show and Mythos Pedals has birthed the Argo Boost Deluxe, a pedal that seamlessly blends octave fuzz with a powerful clean boost. This innovative stompbox transforms a once occasional-use effect into an indispensable tool for any guitarist’s arsenal.
Argo Boost Deluxe
Building upon the foundation of the original Argo, released in 2022, the Argo Boost Deluxe leverages a COB circuit to deliver a rich, articulate fuzz sound that can be precisely blended with a clean boost for unparalleled tonal control.

However, the Deluxe version elevates this concept, offering the pedal’s boost function as a standalone feature, effectively creating a versatile two-in-one unit.

“Think of it as changing lanes inside the pedal,” Mythos explains, highlighting the pedal’s dual-footswitch design. One footswitch activates the classic Argo fuzz circuit, while the second engages the dedicated boost, marked by a distinct red dial for easy identification.

Two Gain Stages
This separation allows players to sculpt two distinct gain stages, ideal for pushing overdrive pedals or tube amps into new sonic territories. The Boost control provides a significant increase in volume, while the fuzz can be used independently or in conjunction with the boost for a wide range of tones.
A hidden Highs switch within the pedal’s enclosure adds another layer of versatility.
Conceived initially as a bright boost, the switchable option allows guitarists to tailor the high-end response to their specific needs. By default, the Highs are disengaged, but engaging the switch introduces a “fine amount of high-end sparkle” to the signal, independent of the octave fuzz circuit.
This unique design was inspired by a serendipitous moment during a live performance. Taylor, preparing to guest with blues virtuoso Aynsley Lister, discovered the pedal’s potential as a clean boost while searching for a distinct tone.

“All of a sudden, my occasional-use pedal has gone to something that can live on the ‘board,” Taylor reveals. “Regular viewers of the show will know I’ve used various versions of the Argo, which was based on the Prescription Electronics COB. I fell in love with it via Doyle Bramhall.”
This accidental discovery transformed the Argo from a situational effect to a core component of Taylor’s rig, prompting the collaboration with Mythos to refine and expand its capabilities.
