Legends Evolve: Ross Electronics Relaunches Under Family Control After JHS Pedals Revival Fizzles
Ross Electronics is back! After JHS Pedals' revival failed, Bud Ross's grandson takes control, launching 5 new Era 6 pedals with modern engineering.

The iconic Ross Electronics effects pedal brand is officially back in the game, pivoting to a new era of family stewardship just one year after a highly anticipated, yet ultimately ill-fated, revival attempt by JHS Pedals.

The enduring spirit of gear innovator Charles “Bud” Ross, who founded the company in the 1970s following his success with Kustom amplifiers, is being channeled by his grandson, Cameron Ross. The new chapter begins with the launch of the Era 6 pedal line, promising a blend of classic tone and modern engineering standards.

Ross Electronics  – The End of the JHS Era

In 2023, JHS Pedals—the company led by Josh Scott—partnered to bring Bud Ross’s beloved stompboxes back to the market, recognizing the timeless design and influence of the original circuits. The relaunch initially showed strong promise, with 5,400 units snapped up by the end of 2023.

However, momentum quickly stalled. Between January and November 2024, sales plummeted to just 334 units, leading JHS Pedals to pull the plug on the partnership.

“The Ross re-release did not go as planned,” JHS Pedals acknowledged at the time. “We loved it, the market did not.”

A New Family Stewardship

Undeterred by the recent struggles, the Ross family has stepped in to take the reins. Cameron Ross, Bud’s grandson, is now spearheading the revival, emphasizing the brand’s heritage while introducing player-driven improvements.

“I am the captain now,” Cameron announced on the Ross Instagram page. “We’re starting with the core line you know and love, each rebuilt with player-driven improvements and the exacting standards of modern pedal design.”

The initial Era 6 collection features five foundational effects, each celebrating the firm’s roots while incorporating modern engineering for enhanced performance:

  • Chorus

  • Distortion

  • Fuzz

  • Compressor

  • Phaser

These new Ross pedals will retain the classic colors and simple aesthetics that made the originals so famous, a visual commitment to the brand’s legacy. Cameron also confirmed in the comments section that fan feedback from the previous revival attempt has been a crucial factor in the new builds.

“Expect refined circuits, rugged builds, and updated features that make them more versatile and gig-ready than ever,” Cameron added, reassuring guitarists and effects pedal enthusiasts about the quality and gig-readiness of the new line.

The Evolving Legend

The company’s core message remains clear: “Legends never die. They evolve. Ross pedals are officially back.”

For gearheads keen to get their hands on the new Ross Era 6 pedals, the company has set up a mailing list for the upcoming launch. This latest chapter promises to fulfill the potential of one of the most classic names in stompbox history.
