Renowned boutique pedal builder returns to his roots with a thick, syrupy fuzz circuit available as both a DIY kit and a production model.
ThorpyFX has announced the immediate release of the Fuzz Remains, a new pedal. In a move that celebrates the brand’s origins, the company is offering this circuit not just as a finished product, but also as a comprehensive DIY pedal kit, designed to fill the void left by the closure of the legendary Build Your Own Clone (BYOC).
A Tribute to DIY Origins
For Adrian Thorpe, the founder of ThorpyFX, the journey into pedal building began with a soldering iron and a curiosity sparked by Build Your Own Clone.
“I started out building pedals a long time ago… but my first builds didn’t look like commercial pedals,” Thorpe explains. “Then I found DIY pedal kits from a company called Build Your Own Clone. Keith, the owner, was the master at creating kits… This got me enthused and excited about guitar circuits.”
With BYOC no longer in operation, ThorpyFX aims to inspire the next generation of builders. The Fuzz Remains is designed to encourage guitarists to “dabble with solder” by offering a high-quality, approachable entry point into pedal construction.
What is the “Fuzz Remains”?
The circuit features a unique origin story. Designed initially as a fuzz-octave pedal, the team felt the octave section didn’t meet their high standards. However, the remaining fuzz circuit was exceptional. They stripped away the octave, leaving only the “Fuzz Remaining”—hence the name.
Sonic Characteristics:
-
Thick and Syrupy: A rich, dense texture that fills the mix.
-
Player Friendly: Described as “easy to play” and not overly fussy.
-
Ideal for Beginners: The simple circuit design makes it a perfect first-time DIY project.

The Kit vs. The Built Pedal
ThorpyFX is offering two ways to acquire the Fuzz Remains:
1. The DIY Kit (Limited Stock)
For those ready to build, the kit arrives in a custom-designed Purple Sparkle 125B enclosure. It is pre-drilled and includes everything needed to complete the build, right down to the solder.

PCB (Main board, footswitch, and a practice soldering board)
-
Practice resistors (to hone your skills before the real build)

2. The Production Model

Verdict
As ever, Adrian Thorpe has created a very tasty fuzz pedal, and the fact that you can build it yourself adds to the appeal of this pedal. Having a pre-built version is also perfect for anyone not confident with a soldering iron.
Both are going to be popular, and I can see a lot of guitarists wanting one in 2026. They can be ordered via the link below.
