Today Epiphone officially announced the new Jerry Cantrell Wino and Prophecy Les Paul Custom models. Both models are based on the guitars used by the Alice In Chains guitarist, but which one will you choose?
Epiphone Jerry Cantrell Wino
First up is the Jerry Cantrell Wino which comes in a Dark Wine Red finish over a plain maple top and has a 9-hole weight-relieved mahogany body. This model has a mahogany neck that has a Cantrell custom taper and an ebony fretboard. It includes all gold hardware, a set of Grover Rotomatic Kidney tuners, plus a pair of Alnico Classic PRO humbuckers The ebony fretboard has 22 medium jumbo frets and overall it looks similar to the original ’90s Gibson model that Cantrell is known for playing for many years.
It ships in a custom hard case, and is the more traditional looking Les Paul Custom of the two models released today. I’m sure this is the one the fans will really enjoy, as it looks like the guitar he is known for playing. However, if you want something a touch more modern, then you will want to check out the new Prophecy model below.
Then there is the new Jerry Cantrell Les Paul Custom Prophecy which is essentially a more modern style of the signature model above. With similar specifications to the Wino model above, in terms of the tone woods and the 9-hole weight-relieved mahogany body, etc
The Prophecy comes in a bone white finish, and instead comes factory fitted with a set of Fishman Fluence pickups. The Fluence pickups have extra voicing via push/pull pots on the guitar for more modern and more PAF like humbucker, plus single-coil tones. It also departs slightly, as it comes with 24 jumbo frets and those diamond inlays on the ebony fretboard.
Again, this model ships is a custom Epiphone hard case.
