Behringer has announced the re-release of the B-TRON III Envelope Filter, a pedal that originally made its mark on the funk and soul music of the 1970s. This updated version aims to recapture the iconic “quack” and “vowel” sounds that defined the era, offering musicians a versatile tool for shaping their tone.
Behringer B-TRON III Envelope Filter Pedal
Hot on the heels of the Behringer Chorus Symphony, now they have announced a remake of the classic ’70s envelope filter by Mutron.
The B-TRON III is an envelope filter, meaning it automatically sweeps through a range of frequencies based on the dynamics of the player’s input. This creates the signature “wah” or “vowel” effect beloved by guitarists, bassists, and keyboard players alike.
The pedal boasts three selectable filter types: low-pass, band-pass, and high-pass. This allows users to tailor the effect, from deep, throaty tones to bright, sizzling highs.

Envelope Filter
A key feature of the original B-TRON III, and retained in this reissue, is the Range switch. This switch allows users to select between “Low” and “High” ranges, affecting the emphasis of vowel-like sounds versus overtones. Furthermore, the Drive switch offers “Up” and “Down” modes, providing access to both the traditional “wah” sweep and a more static, “cocked wah” or “wow” sound.

Updates
Behringer has solved the original pedal’s awkward power supply requirements, and this modern remake can be run off a standard 9v battery or power supply. They have also made the circuit true bypass, so it won’t mess with your tone when it is not engaged.
Behringer’s reintroduction of the B-TRON III brings this classic effect back to the forefront, offering a cost-effective way for musicians to explore the sounds of the ’70s and beyond. The pedal’s versatile controls make it suitable for various genres, promising to add a touch of funk to any setup.
