IK Multimedia TONEX Board: At $999.99 is it too expensive?

Looks like it is out now, and we were correct: a new, updated TONEX Board for 2026.

TONEX 2.0 (Public Beta) just dropped last month, so editing should now be 'fixed,' since the previous software had many complaints from users for being slow and unwieldy.

But will IK's new TONEX Board be enough to rival TONE 3000's Neural Amp Modeler (NAM), which now runs for free on HeadRush Prime hardware?

High Launch Price?

Priced at $999.99/£999.00/€1099.00 and available from today at dealers worldwide.

It looks like a very high price for what it offers compared to what is already on the market. Hopefully, they will drop that MSRP soon.

Currently, we would have to mark this down on price alone, as it is just too expensive. Plus, our own experience with the current Tonex Player software hasn't been smooth, so it doesn't exactly inspire confidence in the ecosystem as a whole. It needs a major overhaul and isn't a great user experience, so we can't recommend it.

A New TONEX

European retailers prematurely published a product listing for an unannounced floor modeler titled the IK Multimedia TONEX Board.

While the product page was quickly taken down, high-resolution product photography and full unit specifications were saved by eagle-eyed gear enthusiasts.

Discussions and mirrored images are already circulating across guitar communities and on social media, including this one on The Gear Page forum (now removed), here, and this one.

IK Multimedia's TONEX ecosystem has gained widespread adoption for its AI Machine Modeling amp captures. However, players seeking a single, self-contained floorboard unit have previously had to build external pedalboards around the compact TONEX Pedal or TONEX One.

The "TONEX Board" appears to be IK’s direct response, offering a comprehensive, stage-ready workstation.

Display & Control Interface

The new unit features a full-color graphical display that runs a dedicated AmpliTube / TONEX interface, rendering complex stereo signal paths ("01A - Stereo Amp Rig"), active amplifier heads, cabinet impulse responses, and pedal effects.

• Dedicated Navigation: Two main rotary encoders flank the upper display—a Volume knob with Home and Live hardware buttons on the left, and a Browse encoder paired with Save and Edit buttons on the right.
• Hands-On Parameter Adjustments: Five dedicated physical knobs sit directly beneath the display for immediate control over Gain, Bass, Mid, Treble, and Volume.
• Foot Control & Construction: Four heavy-duty footswitches labeled A, B, C, and CTRL feature multi-color LED light strips. Printed indicators between switches mark standard bank-up and bank-down combinations. The unit is housed in what appears to be a brushed-anodized black metal enclosure with protective side grab rails and heat-dissipation vents.

Rear Panel Connections & Routing

The rear panel information shared online reveals extensive I/O built for stage and studio integration:

• Stereo Audio I/O: Dual 1/4-inch inputs (1/L, 2/R), dual balanced XLR outputs (1/L, 2/R), and additional 1/4-inch line outputs (3/L, 4/R).
• Dual Stereo FX Loops: Independent Send (1 & 2) and Return (1 & 2) jacks allow complete 4-Cable Method (4CM) integration or stereo insertion of outboard modulation, delay, and reverb processors.
• External Control & MIDI: Full 5-pin DIN MIDI In and Out sockets, plus two 1/4-inch Ext Control jacks for external expression pedals or footswitches.
• Power & Interfacing: A USB-C connection for recording and preset editing, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a standard DC power input, and a dedicated rocker power switch.

Market Impact

By bringing IK's AI Machine Modeling into a multi-switch, screen-driven floor processor, the TONEX Board enters direct competition with established floor modelers such as the Neural DSP Quad Cortex, Line 6 Helix, and Fender Tone Master Pro.

However, TONE 3000's Neural Amp Modeler (NAM), which now runs for free on HeadRush Prime, offers similar power at a much lower price.
