The concept for the Defender Color Collection stems from Mayer’s personal affinity for the iconic British 4x4. A long-time Land Rover enthusiast, Mayer has owned an Arles Blue Defender for nearly two decades. His deep appreciation for the brand’s distinctive color palette naturally evolved into this innovative guitar collection.
“Teaming up with Defender to offer the Silver Sky guitar in their legendary 4x4 colors is a dream come true,” says Mayer. “I’ve always chosen colorways based on objects and materials that inspire me in the world, and as a collector and lover of Defenders, this collaboration is the perfect crossover between two great passions of mine.”
The collection is split into two distinct lines—the core US-made Silver Sky and the accessible PRS SE Silver Sky—each boasting unique design elements that mirror classic and contemporary Defender configurations. The guitars' plastics were specifically chosen to mimic the vehicles' iconic contrasting black-and-white roofs.
US-Made Silver Sky: Heritage Defender Colors
The premium US-built Silver Sky Defender Limited Editions celebrate the rugged vehicle's rich history. Strictly limited to just 500 instruments per color worldwide, these guitars feature matching painted headstocks, white pickguards and control knobs, and custom ATA hard cases adorned with the Defender badge. The custom backplates also display the logo and specific color name.
