Reverend Unveils Billy Corgan Z-One Infinite Sadness

To commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Smashing Pumpkins’ magnum opus, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, Reverend Guitars has launched a highly exclusive limited-edition run of the Billy Corgan Z-One and Drop Z signature models.

Coinciding with the band's current Rats in a Cage Tour, Corgan recently road-tested these futuristic double-cuts during the Pumpkins’ headlining Lollapalooza set. Now, they are available to the public—but you’ll have to act fast. Reverend is producing a strictly limited run of just 60 instruments worldwide, split between 36 standard Z-One models and 24 Drop Z baritones.

A 30th Anniversary Masterpiece in Black Sparkle

Both the standard Z-One and the Drop Z Baritone share a striking aesthetic and a rugged, tour-ready core construction. Designed for heavy alt-rock riffing and thick, saturated tones, these guitars feature solid Alder bodies for a robust midrange, paired with bolt-on Roasted Maple necks that utilize Corgan’s preferred "Medium Oval" profile.

Visually, Reverend has leaned into the anniversary theme. Both models sport a deep Black Sparkle finish, a sleek aluminum pickguard, and a specialized Mellon Collie moon graphic positioned just behind the six-saddle hardtail bridge. The headstock features a prominent “Z” icon, and the ebony fretboard is adorned with dot inlays that—while unconfirmed by Reverend—give off a distinct glow-in-the-dark aesthetic.

Railhammer Z-One Pickups & Bass Contour Control

At the heart of the Infinite Sadness models are the Railhammer Z-One humbuckers. The third signature collaboration between Billy Corgan and Joe Naylor, these pickups are specifically voiced to handle the heavier, fuzz-laden tracks in the Smashing Pumpkins catalog. Expect a fat, punchy midrange paired with a remarkably smooth top end, ensuring big rock solos cut through the mix without becoming harsh.

As with many Reverend models, the circuitry includes a Volume and Tone knob, alongside the highly versatile Bass Contour control. This lets players roll off low-end frequencies, tightening the bass response for high-gain rhythm playing or pseudo-single-coil clarity.
