Who founded Gamechanger Audio?
Ilja Krumins, Kristaps Kalva, Martins Melkis and Didzis Dubovskis, in 2016. Their stated goal was a high-quality sustain and sostenuto pedal for any instrument, which became the PLUS Pedal — the company's first product and the one that established it.
What is the PLASMA Pedal?
A distortion that converts the guitar signal into a high-voltage discharge across a xenon-filled tube, so the clipping happens in an arc of electricity rather than in a transistor or diode. It followed the PLUS Pedal, was crowdfunded like it, and has since spawned rack, Eurorack and drive variants.
What else does Gamechanger Audio make?
Beyond the PLUS and PLASMA lines: the MOTOR Synth, an electromechanical synthesizer built on motors; the LIGHT Pedal, an optical spring reverb; the BIGSBY Pedal; and most recently the AUTO Series. The company says it does not compete with traditional audio devices but offers new ones.
How did Gamechanger Audio get started commercially?
Through crowdfunding. Both the PLUS Pedal and the PLASMA Pedal ran successful campaigns before going into manufacture, which is how a team of engineers and musicians got unconventional designs into production without a distributor's backing.
