Ola Englund, guitarist for the Swedish metal band The Haunted and a long-running YouTube presence in the guitar-gear space, launched Solar Guitars in late 2017 after growing frustrated with how slowly established brands moved compared to how his own audience wanted to buy. He had 300 guitars ready to ship at launch, sold direct rather than through the usual distributor chain, and built the brand's identity around fast-turnaround, socially-driven releases rather than a traditional catalogue cycle. Who is behind Solar Guitars?
Ola Englund, the Swedish guitarist, producer and YouTuber. He plays lead in The Haunted, is a founding member of Feared, and is a former member of Six Feet Under; Total Guitar named him Best Internet Personality in 2018 and 2019. Solar is his own guitar brand rather than a signature line with another maker.
What are Solar guitars aimed at?
Modern metal, unambiguously. The range is built around pointed and offset shapes, satin black finishes, extended-range options, fixed and Evertune bridges, and high-output pickups. Where are Solar guitars made?
Solar is a Swedish brand with production handled by overseas factories, which is how it reaches the prices it does with the specs it lists. Solar does not build in-house, and the specific factory varies by series; the company's own product pages are the reliable source for a given model.
What do the Solar model names mean?
The letter is the body shape and the number is the series and specification. A Type is the double-cut superstrat, V Type the V, E Type the single-cut, S Type the offset and T Type the T-style. The digits after it tell you the series tier, string count and hardware.
