Fender has electrified the guitar world with the release of the Player II Advanced series, a limited-edition, metal-focused reimagining of their popular Player II electric guitars. These exclusive models, a Stratocaster and Telecaster, are currently only available through UK retailer Andertons.
Fender Player II Advanced
Building on the success of the Player II line, which serves as a gateway for many aspiring guitarists, these FSR (Fender Special Run) models inject a dose of high-octane power and modern features. Departing from the standard Player II specifications, the Advanced series boasts significant upgrades in electronics and hardware.

Key features include:
- Seymour Duncan Humbuckers: Both guitars are equipped with high-output Seymour Duncan pickups, with the Strat featuring a JB TB-4 bridge humbucker paired with Custom Flat Strat SSL-6 single-coils in an HSS configuration. The Telecaster sports a dual-humbucker setup with a JB TB-4 and ’59 SH-1N.
- Ebony Fingerboards: Both the Strat and Tele feature sleek ebony fingerboards for enhanced playability and a premium feel.
- Hardtail Bridges: The Stratocaster features a sought-after hardtail bridge design, a rarity for this model. The Telecaster also utilizes a six-saddle hardtail bridge.
- Modern Playability: Both models feature a 12” fingerboard radius, modern C neck profile, 22 jumbo frets, and locking tuners for enhanced stability and ease of playing.
- Distinctive Aesthetics: The Stratocaster features an oversized 1970s-style headstock, further differentiating it from the standard Player II. Finishes include Satin Daphne Blue for the Strat and Satin Ferrari Yellow and Black for the Tele.

“I really like them,” says Lee Anderton in a demo video. “I like the bigger headstock, great pickup selection. Excellent choice, Fender.”

Andertons Exclusive
These Player II Advanced guitars are priced at £949 (approximately $1,230) each.
Currently, they are exclusive to Andertons in the UK. Whether these models will make their way to other markets remains to be seen, but given their high-spec features and metal-oriented design, demand is expected to be significant.
