Unleash dynamic filter sweeps with the JFX JF-101, a modern recreation of the Moogerfooger Lowpass Filter.

JFX Pedals has just announced the arrival of the JF-101 Mesquerfresquer Lowpass Filter – a meticulous recreation of the legendary Moogerfooger unit condensed into a pedalboard-friendly and modern package.

What is the JF-101?

The JF-101 is a powerful lowpass filter pedal that lets you sculpt your sound with dynamically controlled filter sweeps. Imagine adding smooth, expressive textures to your leads, creating deep, funky bass lines, or bringing vibrant movement to your keyboard parts—the JF-101 handles it all!

At Guitar Bomb, we are huge fans of Jordan Fresque’s work. You may remember the Mesquerfresquer 12-Stage Phaser and the Deluxe Modulation Ensemble. Therefore, we were excited to see this latest release.

Beyond the Basics: Unveiling the Power of the JF-101

The JF-101 boasts an impressive feature set that caters to the needs of discerning musicians. Let’s delve deeper into what makes this pedal truly special:

  • Voltage-controlled lowpass filter: This is the heart of the JF-101, allowing you to control the filter’s cutoff frequency for sculpting sound precisely. Imagine sweeping the filter up and down to create funky wah-wah effects or dialling in subtle tonal variations for added texture.
  • Envelope follower: Want your filter sweeps to react dynamically to your playing? The envelope follower does just that. Play softly for a subtle effect, or dig in for more pronounced filter movements – the JF-101 reacts to your every nuance.
  • Multiple CV/Expression Pedal inputs and outputs: This is where things get interesting for adventurous players. CV (control voltage) lets you control the filter parameters using external sources like synthesizers or sequencers, unlocking a world of sonic possibilities. Expression pedals add another layer of real-time control, letting you manipulate the filter on the fly for expressive performances.
  • Selectable filter slopes: The JF-101 offers two distinct filter slopes – 12dB/octave and 24dB/octave. The 12dB/octave slope provides a brighter, more subtle effect, while the 24dB/octave slope delivers a deeper, more pronounced filter sweep. Choose the one that best suits your sonic palette.
  • Fine-tuning Your Sound: The JF-101 goes beyond basic filter control. Dive deeper with the Drive knob to adjust the input gain, the Mix knob to blend between filtered and dry signals, the Resonance knob to shape the filter’s response from smooth to growling, and the Envelope Amount knob to control the envelope follower’s impact on the filter cutoff.
