Manson Guitar Works and majority shareholder Matt Bellamy of Muse fame have officially launched their brand’s first-ever compact effects pedal: the Supermassive Black Fuzz.
Supermassive Black Fuzz
Named after Muse’s 2006 megahit, “Supermassive Black Hole,” the new stompbox promises to deliver the exact “lush, thick tones” that have become a hallmark of Bellamy’s iconic guitar sound. This highly anticipated pedal is the culmination of “several years” of meticulous design by Bellamy and the Manson team, in collaboration with legendary pedal builder Adrian Thorpe, the mastermind behind ThorpyFX.
“Adrian’s skills have meshed perfectly with our first pedal design, resulting in the sonic nirvana that fans of innovative music will be looking for,” says Manson Guitar Works.

Key Features: Crafting a Supermassive Sound
The UK-built Supermassive Black Fuzz is housed in a durable, black-anodized, ergonomic chassis featuring stunning cosmology-inspired visuals. The control layout is as impressive as the tones it creates, with four unique rotary controls:
- Magnitude
- Warp
- Dimension
- Gravity
These are complemented by an EQ selector switch and two footswitches.
“Adhering to a long-standing Manson Guitar Works tradition, the control knobs themselves are as impressive as the tonal dimensions beneath them,” Manson notes.
The high-quality controls are crafted from a strong 6082T6 aluminium alloy, securely fastened with stainless steel grub screws—eschewing plastic for maximum durability and feel. The pedal also features LEDs to indicate power and the status of its Peak filter clearly.
Designed for the Studio and the Stage
Bellamy ensured the pedal wasn’t just tested with traditional guitar amplifiers. During development, he specifically fine-tuned every parameter so that the fuzz pedal is also usable directly through a recording console.
This process involved extensive sessions at various studios around the world, including the world-famous Abbey Road. This focus guarantees astonishing results for guitarists, producers, and home recording artists seeking a powerful, professional-grade fuzz effect.
Pricing and Availability: Limited Gold Edition
The Supermassive Black Fuzz is available in two distinct versions for guitar tone enthusiasts:
| Edition | Price | Key Features |
| Standard Edition | £259 | Full Supermassive Black Fuzz functionality. |
| Gold Edition | £359 | Limited to 100 units, hand-signed by Matt Bellamy, exclusive pick tin, gold logo box, six signature plectrums, and a Manson polishing cloth. |
The pedal is available from official Manson Guitar Works dealers now, and directly via the Manson Guitar Works online store.
